Tonkin + Taylor provided advice on contamination during pre-lease negotiations, and planning and geotechnical services during Stolthaven’s subsequent exit of their bulk storage terminal at Wynyard Point, Auckland.
The site is located on an area of reclaimed land which had been contaminated with a range of metals, hydrocarbons, and solvents prior to Stolthaven’s occupation due to a long history of bulk chemical storage activity on and surrounding the site. Our team assisted Stolthaven with lease negotiations prior to occupation and then undertook soil and groundwater investigations at the end of Stolthaven lease. Through our work, we were able to successfully show that Stolthaven had not caused any incremental change in contamination conditions at the site when it ended its lease.
Demolition phase scope of work included preparing management plans and assessment of environmental effects for the removal of 28 bulk storage tanks and associated infrastructure to support resource consent application. We also provided contamination and geotechnical site support during demolition work.
Despite challenges of undertaking investigations during the COVID-19 pandemic and the end of lease deadline, our team utilised agile processes with parallel workstreams for consenting and site investigation to deliver.
