2022 ACE New Zealand Awards: ED wins Gold and Silver

Everything Digital is proud to share that we have been awarded Gold and Silver at the 2022 ACE New Zealand awards!

The Downtown Tāmaki Makaurau project took home a gold ACE award. Located at the bottom of Queen Street by the Waitematā Harbour, the project demonstrates how bringing an innovative consulting approach to the table can deliver infrastructure outcomes that benefit the community.

We’re delighted to have worked alongside Aurecon to deliver the project for Auckland Transport, Auckland Council, and Eke Panuku Development Auckland.

Mark Foster, Downtown Programme Design Manager says “The project started as an ambitious vision to create a welcoming waterfront destination. It was bought to life by a diverse team of skilled professionals and this award is recognition of their great work, and Auckland Council and Auckland Transport’s vision!”

A silver ACE award was awarded to the Kaikōura self-cleaning rockfall canopy. The leading-edge canopy was created in collaboration with Swiss specialists Geobrugg and the North Canterbury Transport Infrastructure Recovery (NCTIR) alliance (ED, Aurecon and WSP). The bespoke self-cleaning canopy is one of only three of its kind in the world, the longest and the most geometrically complex.

The self-cleaning rockfall canopy uses conventional rockfall fence componentry to form a radical new system shaped as a tensioned, sloping mesh roof over the roadway. Falling rocks bounce and slide over the mesh canopy, dropping from the outer edge into a designated safe zone in the sea. It’s a solution that will bring significant benefits to the Kaikōura community and users of State Highway 1.

ED Sector Director – Land Grant Lovell says, “The project emulates the outstanding collative thinking by the NCTIR Alliance team to create a design which enables the SH1 to remain open not requiring closure post rock fall events while keeping the public safe in everyday use. The award is recognition of the team’s great work and commitment to the roading network.”.

Finally, we’d like to acknowledge ED Technical Director – Freshwater Science & Ecology Justine Quinn for being an ACE Emerging Leader Award finalist. Justine brings fifteen years’ experience in freshwater science within the public and private sector.

A Certified Environmental Practitioner with an Ecology Specialisation, Justine provides technical oversight to a large number of small and large-scale projects and she is currently an expert witness on a number of significant projects. We’re incredibly proud of Justine and her growth as a leader in the consulting space.

Reflecting on the ACE Awards, ED Executive Leader – Clients + Brands Simonne Eldridge says “I’m very proud of the ED Team given how many amazing projects were showcased at the Awards night this year. We are privileged to work with our clients to co-create industry-leading outcomes for the communities within which we operate.”

Congratulations and well done to all winners and finalists – it was inspiring seeing the high standard of engineering and consulting recognised on the night!
